The Metropolitan Police is gearing up for a busy weekend across London, with a packed schedule of public events, sporting fixtures, protests, and ceremonial gatherings.
Officers will be deployed across central London and at key venues throughout the city to ensure the safety and security of attendees and the wider public.
Major Events This Weekend
On Saturday, the capital will host:
- St George’s Day celebrations
- The first of two FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley Stadium
- A major boxing event at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
- A Just Stop Oil protest in Westminster
On Sunday, thousands of runners and spectators are expected for both the London Mini Marathon and the full London Marathon, alongside the second FA Cup semi-final.
Police Statement
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Andy Valentine, leading the policing operation for the weekend, said:
“This is the sort of weekend where London comes to life, as millions make plans to enjoy the city and the many events taking place.
Our role is to provide a reassuring presence, ensure that events and gatherings take place safely and securely, and respond to any incidents or offences.”
He added that officers will act decisively if protests cross into criminal behaviour, particularly in light of planned disruptions by climate campaigners.
“We will be keeping a close eye on any attempt to cause serious disruption and dealing swiftly with those intent on doing so.”
Public Safety Advice
The Met is encouraging the public to remain vigilant.
Anyone who sees something suspicious is urged to report it to a steward, a police officer, or directly via 999 if necessary.
“No report is too small,” said Deputy Assistant Commissioner Valentine. “If you’re in any doubt, please act.”
He also extended thanks to police officers and emergency service personnel who will be working over the weekend:
“They are there to keep you safe. If you need help or have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to speak to them.”
