Bus Driver Charged with Drug Driving After Pedestrian Collision in Croydon

Detectives from the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command have charged a man in connection with a serious collision involving a bus and a pedestrian in Croydon.

The incident occurred on Saturday, 5 October, at around 1:09 PM on George Street. Emergency services, including paramedics from the London Ambulance Service, responded to reports of a collision. A 46-year-old man was found seriously injured and was rushed to hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

The bus driver, identified as Akil Atkins, 30, of Tipton Drive, Croydon, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug driving. He was subsequently charged the following day, Sunday, 6 October, with the offence.

Atkins has been released on bail and is scheduled to return for further questioning in mid-December as investigations continue.
