Founder of Marwell Zoo sadly passes

SAD NEWS AS MARWELL WILDLIFE FOUNDER PASSES AWAY Hampshire and iow news The Founder of Marwell Wildlife in 1972 has sadly passed away after many years were given by Dr Knowles in the conservation of wildlife. Marwell has been home to many animals across the years and had great success in the breeding and conservation strategies put in place. A spokesperson for Marwell has said; “We are sorry to share the sad news of the passing of Dr John Knowles OBE, who founded Marwell in 1972. Many of our staff and volunteers will have known or worked with John and we know this news will be very sadly received by many. John Knowles was a great innovator. His pioneering approach in the 1970’s did much to change the outlook and perception of the sector. He implemented many changes to the operations of zoos and conservation, and we have a lot to thank him for. Our deepest sympathies go out to Dr Knowles’ family.
