Major Search off Hayling Island for vulnerable’ missing person

A massive land and sea search is being carried out for a ‘vulnerable’ missing person on Hayling Island this morning. Coastguard teams, police, lifeboats and a rescue chopper were all drafted in early hours of Friday night. Police say they are currently looking for a high risk missing person and they are very are concerned for their welfare. A spokesperson for the UK Coastguard said: “””At just after 1.45pm Friday 17th March the team were paged to assist Hampshire Police searching for a vulnerable missing person in the area of Hayling Island. “The team were assisted by Lee on the Solent Coastguard Rescue Helicopter they are currently carrying out a comprehensive search from the air supported by teams on the ground and on the water the search operation is being managed by Hampshire Police. A Portsmouth lifeboat spokesperson said: “Portsmouth’s RNLI lifeboat volunteers were alerted by the Coastguard and were requested to assist in an ongoing search for a missing local man. Both RNLI inshore lifeboats were launched from Portsmouth and the charity’s volunteers carried out a shoreline search alongside Hayling Island and Portsmouth Coastguard rescue teams, police, the Coastguard rescue helicopter. Hampshire Police have yet to comment further about the search or the missing person More to Follow Shortly
