Motorists travelling along the M20/M26 in Kent found themselves in an unusual situation today as part of the motorway was closed due to cows wandering onto the road.

National Highways confirmed the closure and reported that cows had ventured onto the carriageway. Kent Police were swiftly dispatched to handle the situation and ensure the safety of both the animals and the drivers.

As a result of the bovine roadblock, motorists experienced delays of up to 80 minutes on the M20 westbound after the M26. However, there is good news for commuters as National Highways has now confirmed that the cows have been safely removed from the carriageway.

Currently, there are residual delays of 60 minutes along the M20 westbound between junctions J3 and J1. Traffic conditions are expected to return to normal between 10:15 am and 10:30 am today.

Kent Police and National Highways officers have been diligently working to clear the road, and the situation is now under control.
