Woman’s death in fire prompts murder investigation

A murder investigation has been launched after a woman died from her injuries following a fire in Islington. Police, the London Ambulance Service (LAS) and the London Fire Brigade were called on Thursday, 5 July at around 2.30am to a report of a fire at a flat in Noll House, Corker Walk, N7. A 43-year-old woman inside the address had suffered serious burns and was taken to a north London hospital and then to a specialist burns hospital. Despite the best efforts of the medical professionals, she died from her injuries on Tuesday, 21 August. Her next of kin are aware. Formal identification and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course. Four children were taken to hospital by LAS as a precaution; they were not seriously injured. Abdi Quule, 42 of Noll House, Corker Walk, N7, was found at the scene and also treated for burns at hospital. After treatment, he was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Quule was subsequently charged on Saturday, 4 August with attempted murder and appeared in custody at Highbury Magistrates’ Court on the same day. He was remanded in custody to appear on at the Old Bailey on Thursday, 30 August. The investigation is currently led by officers from the Central North Command Unit. The Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command has been made aware. Enquiries continue.
