Fast Acting Kent Police Officers Detained Two Men On Suspicion Of A Chatham Robbery Within 25 Minutes Of A Report Being Received

 

 

Jamil Onilearan and Ghandi Mallak are alleged to have robbed a man of a phone, a bank card and a train ticket in Chatham High Street at around 6.50pm on Saturday 26 February 2022.

 

The Medway Community Policing Team were deployed to the area and liaised closely with camera operators from Medway Council. Their efforts led to both suspects being detained in the  High Street at around 7.15pm.

 

As a result of further searches, a quantity of heroin and crack cocaine was seized by the constables.

 

Onilearan, 20, of no fixed address, has since been charged with robbery and possessing heroin and crack cocaine with intent to supply.

 

Mallak, 22, of no fixed address, has been charged with the same offences and an additional count of assault. The extra charge relates to an allegation he assaulted a man who attempted to assist the robbery victim.

 

Both men were remanded in custody to attend Medway Magistrates’ Court on Monday 28 February 2022. At the hearing, they were both remanded in custody and will next appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday 28 March.
