Wightlink ferry on fire off Isle of Wight A fire has broken out on a Wightlink ferry as it crossed the Solent. The Lee-on-the-Solent coastguard said the fire was on the bridge wing and not an area where passengers are. It is not yet know if anyone onboard has been injured in the blaze. The ship was heading to Fishbourne when the emergency call was made to the fire service just after 9.30am. An Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said two fire engines from Ryde were called to the port, and the Coastguard and Marine Police were standing by. Andy Hirst UPDATE from Solent Coastguard : All passengers safely evacuated after ferry fire this morning At about 9.30 today the St Faith Wight Link car ferry contacted the UK Coastguard reporting a fire on their bridge wing port side. When the call was made, the vessel was on route from Portsmouth to Fishbourne, Isle of Wight. The vessel is now alongside the ferry terminal in Fishbourne. UK Coastguard immediately sent the Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team, Cowes RNLI Lifeboat, Isle of Wight Fire Service and the Hampshire Police to the scene. The fire has been extinguished and all passengers have been evacuated from the vessel, with no reported injuries.
