Yesterday HM Coastguard received a call from a member of public in Spain who had picked up a mayday text reporting that a vessel was sinking off Madagascar and that the crew had taken to their liferaft. HM Coastguard contacted its international counterparts in Madagascar and following some communications work, the crew, who were Italian, Spanish and Canadian were recovered by a motor tanker.
