Update: Royal Albion hotel fire, road closures and planned facade dismantling – UKNIP

A fire at the historic Royal Albion Hotel in Brights continues to challenge emergency services, as firefighters employ ground monitors, main jets, and an aerial ladder platform to tackle the blaze. As a result of the ongoing incident, road closures along Kings Road from West Street to Steine Street and Old Steine will remain in place, affecting traffic and pedestrian access.

In a recent update, a spokesperson for the East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) said, “We expect to remain on scene through the evening. Please stay away from the area and keep windows and doors closed.” They added that while an investigation is currently underway, it is not expected to conclude for some time. There are still no reports of casualties, which is a testament to the rapid response of emergency services.

Furthermore, plans are underway to dismantle the facade of the Royal Albion Hotel. This step, which is necessary to allow firefighters safe access to the burning remains, is expected to take place Monday morning. The company responsible for the task is expected to arrive on-site in the morning to begin the careful deconstruction of the seafront hotel’s exterior.

The spokesperson also mentioned that the ESFRS continues to receive significant support from the Sussex Police, Ambulance Services, Southern Water, Building Control, and Brighton and Hove City Council (BHCC) Emergency Planning. This collective effort aims to mitigate the incident’s impact and ensure public safety.

With road closures extending overnight, commuters are once again advised to plan their journeys accordingly. Updates on the traffic situation will continue to be posted on the Sussex Travel Watch Twitter feed and on Regency Radio, where Travel Nick will provide comprehensive coverage of the traffic implications due to this fire incident.
