In a coordinated operation, Greater Manchester Police have apprehended three individuals on suspicion of commission, preparation, and instigation of acts of terrorism. The arrests, carried out at three separate locations, involved individuals aged 35, 36, and 51, who were subsequently taken into custody for questioning.
Symbolizing a proactive response to potential threats, the police executed four search warrants across Bolton, Great Lever, Abram, and Hindley areas around 7:30 pm. Officers continue to maintain a presence at the various scenes as inquiries unfold under the auspices of the Terrorism Act 2000.
Despite the gravity of the situation, authorities are adamant that there is no broader threat to public safety at present and are implementing measures to mitigate disruptions for residents.
Assistant Chief Constable Rob Potts, overseeing counter-terrorism policing in the northwest, provided insights into the operation, stating, “Today’s activity has been the culmination of much detailed planning, and we have put measures in place to minimize disruption to residents as much as possible.
Potts acknowledged the inevitable concerns arising from such arrests but sought to reassure the public, affirming, “We do not currently believe there to be any wider threat linked to today’s activity.” While specifics of the investigation remain undisclosed at this stage, further updates will be disseminated as deemed appropriate during the inquiry.
The arrests underscore the unwavering commitment of law enforcement agencies to safeguarding communities from potential security threats, with meticulous planning and decisive action forming the cornerstone of efforts to maintain public safety.
