Suspected thieves armed with hammers have been arrested following reports of break-ins at two shops near Sevenoaks.

The two men were detained by responding patrols in connection with attempts to steal items including alcohol and power tools.

It is reported they first forced their way into a Tesco in Riverhead at around 5.10am on Tuesday 22 April 2025, where they tried to steal bottles of spirits. The men are said to have threatened staff with a hammer before they left empty handed.

Attending officers were then quickly alerted to another break-in, after an alarm activated at a nearby Topps Tiles store. It is reported a door was forced open before attempts were made to steal tools, as well as confectionary items from a fridge.

Both suspects, aged in their 30s and 40s, were arrested at the scene and taken into custody. They are currently bailed to return to a police station, pending the outcome of further enquiries.
