Search for Missing British Teenager Jay Slater in Tenerife Called Off by Police
Detective-Turned-TV Investigator Offers Help in Search for Missing Jay Slater in Tenerife

The search for missing British teenager Jay Slater in the Masca area of Tenerife has been called off by the Civil Guard. Despite the cessation of the physical search, authorities have confirmed that the investigation into his disappearance remains open.

Background

Jay Slater, an apprentice bricklayer from Oswaldtwistle, near Blackburn in Lancashire, has been missing since the morning of 17 June. The 19-year-old disappeared after attending the NRG music festival in Tenerife.

The Search Effort

On Saturday, the Civil Guard called for volunteers to participate in a “massive search” in the northwestern mountain village of Masca. Hundreds of volunteers, including locals and tourists, joined the effort to comb the rugged terrain where Jay was last seen. Despite their extensive efforts, no trace of Jay was found, leading to the official end of the search.

Details of Disappearance

Jay was last seen by Masca resident Ofelia Medina Hernandez at approximately 8:00 AM on 17 June. He had missed the bus back to his accommodation and decided to walk, a journey that would have taken around 11 hours. During a phone call to a friend at around 8:30 AM, Jay mentioned he was lost, needed water, and had only 1% battery remaining on his phone.

Ms. Hernandez recounted her encounter with Jay, stating she informed him of the next bus at 10:00 AM. Despite this, Jay set off on foot, and Ms. Hernandez later observed him “walking fast” along the road.

Family and Community Response

Jay’s disappearance has sparked widespread concern and prompted numerous searches by local police, the Civil Guard, and Jay’s family. His family shared a blurry image they believe could be Jay, hoping for any information that might lead to his whereabouts.

The case has also attracted attention from online sleuths, some of whom have traveled to Tenerife to assist in the search. However, the spread of rumors and conspiracy theories on social media has complicated the investigation.

Continuing Investigation

While the physical search in Masca has been called off, the Civil Guard has emphasized that the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are urging anyone with information about Jay’s whereabouts to come forward.

Conclusion

As the search for Jay Slater transitions from physical efforts to continued investigation, his family and friends remain hopeful for his safe return. The community and volunteers have shown immense support, highlighting the collective effort to find the missing teenager.
