A major rescue operation is currently underway after a small boat, believed to be carrying around 60 migrants, ran aground on a sandbank in the English Channel off the Kent coast. The incident occurred approximately five miles from the shore.

The Dover and Walmer lifeboats were swiftly launched to assist the Border Force, who received reports of the stranded vessel. Additionally, two French vessels and the Coastguard helicopter have been dispatched to the scene.

As rescuers race against time, one person has already been safely rescued from the water. However, the situation remains critical due to the rapidly changing tide. The Goodwin Sands, where the boat ran aground, is a notorious hazard location that has claimed many lives over the years.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and emergency services are working tirelessly to ensure the safety of all those involved. The number of migrants attempting to cross the English Channel in small boats has exceeded 7,000 so far this year, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by both rescuers and those seeking refuge.
