Detectives investigating the fatal stabbing of 21-year-old Giovanny Rendon Bedoya in Walworth are appealing to the public for information as they work to identify those responsible.
Police were called to Hillingdon Street, SE17, at 9:16pm on Monday, April 14, after receiving multiple 999 calls reporting a stabbing and sightings of individuals carrying knives.
Officers and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service arrived swiftly but, despite their efforts, Giovanny was pronounced dead at the scene.
He has now been formally identified, and his family is being supported by specially trained officers.
Appeal for Witnesses and Footage
Detective Chief Inspector Kate Blackburn, who is leading the investigation, has urged anyone who may have seen or heard anything that night to speak up.
“We know there were a number of people in the area on Monday night. Many will have seen the group involved or may have crucial information that could help us,” she said.
“Were you in Hillingdon Street that evening? Did you see anyone acting suspiciously or carrying a knife?
“Please, if you saw or heard anything — or have footage from your phone, dashcam, or doorbell — come forward. Even a small detail could be vital.”
DCI Blackburn confirmed that six people were arrested shortly after the incident.
Three have been released with no further action, while three others remain on bail as enquiries continue.
“We’re working tirelessly to find out exactly what happened and to bring those responsible to justice,” she added.
Community Impact and Police Response
Detective Superintendent Emma Bond, Acting BCU Commander for Lambeth and Southwark, acknowledged the community’s shock:
“This kind of violence is devastating, and I understand the fear and concern this brings to the community.
“We have increased patrols in the area this week — if you have any concerns or need support, please speak to our officers.”
She also echoed the call for information and urged residents to help the investigation:
“Our thoughts remain with Giovanny’s loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.”
