A yellow HGV lorry and a yellow BMW were involved in an accident on Station Hill today (7 June) at around 12.13pm.
Officers were on patrol in the area and arrived on the scene shortly after the collision to respond to the incident.
The scene was also attended by emergency services, including Southampton Central Ambulance Service and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, with surrounding roads closed while we responded.
The BMW driver, a 26-year-old man from Eastleigh, was taken to Southampton General Hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries but died later.
Officers have informed his family and are assisting them at this time.
The road closures are still in effect at this time.
Sergeant Jon White stated, “We are currently conducting preliminary inquiries to determine the exact circumstances that resulted in the tragic loss of a man’s life.”
We are interested in speaking with anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and may have dash-cam footage. Similarly, we’d like to hear from any local businesses that may have relevant CCTV footage from the moments preceding the incident.
