The incident happened shortly before 8am on Tuesday 26 April and involved the driver of a grey Nissan and the driver of a black BMW.
The two men were involved in an argument on the hard shoulder of the northbound M11, close to Chigwell, when the driver of the Nissan was assaulted.
He sustained injuries which required hospital treatment, but which are not considered to be life-threatening or life-changing.
As a result of our initial enquiries, a 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of GBH and criminal damage. He has been released under investigation.
Police enquiries are continuing, and we need anyone who witnessed the incident or has any dashcam footage of it to get in touch.
