Authorities are appealing to witnesses and individuals with dash cam footage following a serious two-car collision on the A19 in Sunderland. The incident occurred on Saturday at approximately 8.10pm on the southbound stretch of the A19, between the A1231 and the A183.
The collision involved a silver Mercedes and a black MG, as reported by multiple witnesses. Emergency services promptly responded to the scene, and the two occupants of the MG, a 49-year-old woman, and a 46-year-old man, were transported to the hospital for suspected minor injuries.
The driver of the Mercedes, a 30-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. However, he has since been released on police bail pending further investigation. Two male passengers from the Mercedes were also taken to the hospital, with one male being treated for serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
According to reports, a fourth man allegedly fled the scene on foot following the collision. Authorities are urging this individual to come forward so that they can ensure his well-being.
An ongoing investigation is underway, and law enforcement is seeking assistance from motorists who may have witnessed the collision or possess dash cam footage related to the incident. The road was closed for approximately three hours to facilitate investigation activities, and inquiries will continue in the following days.
