West Midlands Police have launched a public appeal after a female cyclist was punched in the face during an unprovoked assault in Birmingham city centre last November.
The incident happened on Monday, November 25, 2024, between 4:00 PM and 4:40 PM, at the junction of Bristol Street and Belgrave Middleway, a busy area frequently used by motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians.
Assault at City Junction
The victim, who has not been named, was stationary on her bike at the traffic lights when she was approached by a man on foot. Without warning, he punched her on the right side of her face, causing visible redness and swelling.
The suspect fled the scene immediately after the attack, and despite extensive CCTV trawls and investigative efforts, he has not yet been identified.
Police Urge Public to Help
In a statement issued this week, West Midlands Police confirmed that the assault is being treated as a serious incident and have appealed directly to the public for information.
“We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the assault or who recognises the suspect to contact us as soon as possible,” a police spokesperson said.

Cyclist Safety Concerns
The attack has raised concerns over safety for cyclists in the city, especially during peak traffic hours. Advocacy groups have renewed calls for increased police patrols and better surveillance in high-traffic areas like Belgrave Middleway.
Local residents have also expressed concern. One commuter, who cycles along the same route daily, said: “It’s shocking. You’d expect this kind of attack to happen at night, not in broad daylight with cars and people everywhere.”
Ongoing Investigation
Police are continuing to review CCTV footage from nearby cameras and hope that public assistance will help lead to a breakthrough.
Anyone with dashcam footage from the area around the time of the assault is also encouraged to come forward.
