Residents in Maidstone were alarmed last night as huge plumes of smoke filled the sky after a fire broke out near King Edward Road.

The blaze, which began around 11pm, saw firefighters swiftly called to the scene. Local reports described the sky filled with thick smoke near trees and houses, while multiple sirens were heard in the surrounding area.

An image captured by a resident shows the extent of the fire, with smoke billowing into the night sky.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene and successfully put out the flames. Further details regarding the cause of the fire and whether there were any injuries or damage are yet to be confirmed.
