Organizers of the Llangollen International Musical Festival are on the hunt for a former paramedic who swiftly came to the aid of a concert-goer experiencing a cardiac arrest following the event’s opening concert on Tuesday night.
The incident occurred in the festival’s car park shortly after 11 pm, moments after the opening concert, which featured acclaimed singer Alfie Boe and former Britain’s Got Talent contestants Welsh of the West End.
The “quick-thinking” ex-paramedic, whose identity remains unknown, demonstrated the exceptional presence of mind by promptly running to a nearby rugby club to retrieve a defibrillator and administer CPR to the stricken individual. The man’s family, deeply grateful for his life-saving intervention, is keen to express their appreciation.
In recognition of the ex- paramedic’s heroic actions, the Llangollen Eisteddfod has offered him free concert tickets for the remainder of the festival as a token of their gratitude.
Camilla King, the festival’s executive producer, lauded the former paramedic’s presence at the scene as a “miracle.” She also acknowledged the swift follow-up support provided by St John’s Ambulance staff, who were on-site during the festival.
Following the cardiac arrest, the man was swiftly transported by ambulance to Wrexham Maelor Hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition. Camilla King shared that the patient was able to speak to his wife en route to the hospital, providing reassurance during a challenging time.
Expressing her gratitude to all involved in the exceptional response, Ms King remarked, “It was a fantastic response all around, and we’re very grateful to everyone concerned. We wish him a full and speedy recovery.”
St John’s Ambulance also extended their good wishes to the patient, expressing pride in their volunteers who promptly delivered high-quality care, a hallmark of St John Ambulance Cymru.
Alfie Boe, the renowned singer who headlined the opening concert, expressed his appreciation to all who attended the event and conveyed his love for returning to the beautiful part of Wales where the festival takes place.
The organizers of the Llangollen International Festival hope to connect with the former paramedic to personally express their gratitude and formally acknowledge his life-saving actions.
