Official Portrait of King Charles Unveiled at Buckingham Palace

Buckingham Palace witnessed a historic moment today as the first official painted portrait of the King since his coronation was revealed. The artist behind this remarkable work is none other than the renowned portraitist Jonathan Yeo.

Yeo’s illustrious portfolio boasts an array of influential figures, including Idris Elba, Cara Delevingne, Sir David Attenborough, Nicole Kidman, Malala Yousafzai, and former prime ministers Sirs David Cameron and Tony Blair. His artistic prowess has graced prestigious venues such as the Royal Academy of Arts and the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC.

Yeo meticulously crafted this masterpiece during four sittings with His Majesty, spanning from June 2021 to November 2023. These sessions took place at both Highgrove in Gloucestershire and Clarence House in London.

In a momentous unveiling ceremony at Buckingham Palace, Yeo expressed his gratitude: “It was a privilege and pleasure to have been commissioned by The Drapers’ Company to paint this portrait of His Majesty The King.” The portrait stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of the monarchy and the artistic brilliance that immortalises it.
