Police in Cornwall have launched a murder investigation following the tragic death of an 18-year-old man in Bodmin. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 23 July.
Detective Inspector Ilona Rosson, leading the Major Crime Team, provided details on the incident, stating, “We were called following an altercation at a property on Wallace Street, Bodmin, just after midnight on Sunday, 23 July. It is currently believed that following this altercation, a number of people fled the scene, one of whom had sustained a serious injury.”
The injured individual was rushed to Bodmin Hospital by a member of the public. Despite the best efforts of those at the scene, the 18-year-old local man succumbed to his injuries and tragically passed away in the hospital’s car park. While formal identification is yet to take place, his next of kin have been informed.
As the investigation unfolds, a scene guard remains in place within the car park of Bodmin Hospital. Authorities assure the public that the hospital remains open and accessible for those in need of medical treatment.
A 17-year-old local male has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident. Scene guards remain in and around the area as inquiries continue. Additionally, an 18-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.
Investigators are urging witnesses to come forward and provide any information related to the incident. They are particularly interested in accounts from individuals who were in the areas of Wallace Street, Berrycombe Road, and the A389 between Cardell Road and Bodmin Hospital between 22.00 on Saturday, 22 July, and 01:30 on Sunday, 23 July.
In their pursuit of evidence, investigators are also appealing for any CCTV, doorbell camera, or dashcam footage that covers the specified areas during the mentioned time frame.
