PC Laura Seal, a Metropolitan Police officer, has been dismissed from her position following an incident where she assaulted a man after a night out in Greenwich. The incident occurred after a night of socializing at various venues, including Bomb Bar, Hollywood Bowl, and Zebrano nightclub in Soho.

Allegedly, while dancing with her colleagues in the club, a man approached their group and attempted to join in. When his advances were rebuffed, he purportedly made derogatory remarks towards the officers, calling them “ugly trolls” and asserting, “I can do what I want to women.” However, he denies using such language.

In response to the confrontation, PC Seal grabbed the man by the back of his collar and placed him in a headlock, eventually dragging him to the floor. PC Seal claimed she acted out of concern that his behaviour might escalate to sexual assault, but a misconduct panel found this explanation “implausible.

During the misconduct hearing, PC Seal admitted to acting impulsively, stating, “I don’t know, I just lost it, I just pushed him away.” The panel concluded that her actions were motivated by anger rather than genuine concern for her safety or that of her colleagues.

Despite PC Seal’s assertions of feeling threatened by the man’s behaviour, the panel found no evidence to support her claim that she genuinely believed he posed a threat of sexual assault. Consequently, PC Seal was dismissed without notice following the misconduct hearing.

The incident underscores the importance of upholding professional conduct, particularly for law enforcement officers, even in challenging situations. The Metropolitan Police remains committed to maintaining high standards of behaviour and accountability within its ranks.
