A man convicted of the murder of his friend has been handed a life sentence with a minimum term of 20 years following a thorough investigation by the London Metropolitan Police.
Peter Lalgie-Williams, born on May 16, 1966, was found guilty of murdering 57-year-old Chester Goffe in February 2023. In addition to his life sentence, Lalgie-Williams received a two-year concurrent sentence for a previous assault.
Detective Chief Inspector Dave Whellams, leading the investigation, emphasized the police’s commitment to delivering justice for Chester’s family. He stated, “Lalgie-Williams has failed to admit any responsibility for his actions but the evidence we gathered left the jury with no doubt as to his guilt.”

The tragic incident unfolded in the early hours of February 11, 2023, when Lalgie-Williams alerted the London Ambulance Service, claiming his friend had collapsed after consuming alcohol at his residence on Hicken Road, Brixton.
Upon arrival, paramedics discovered Chester unresponsive, with two stab wounds to his chest. Despite their efforts, Chester was pronounced dead at the scene. Lalgie-Williams was promptly arrested on suspicion of murder.
A comprehensive investigation ensued, led by specialized detectives. Surveillance footage revealed that Lalgie-Williams and Chester had left the flat around 22:30hrs on the night of the murder to purchase alcohol from a nearby shop, returning approximately half an hour later.
Further evidence emerged during a search of Lalgie-Williams’s residence, where a knife, bearing Chester’s blood, was discovered in the kitchen drawer.
Throughout the investigation, Lalgie-Williams adamantly denied any involvement in Chester’s death and failed to provide a motive for the attack. However, authorities suspect the fatal altercation likely stemmed from a drunken dispute.
As Lalgie-Williams begins his lengthy incarceration, Chester’s family continues to grapple with the loss of their loved one. The sentencing brings a sense of closure to a painful chapter, providing some measure of justice for Chester Goffe.
The Metropolitan Police reaffirms its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the community, pledging to pursue perpetrators of violent crimes relentlessly.
