Man Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Brutal Knife Attack on Woman

Itesh Ira of Belmont Avenue, Wembley, has been handed a life sentence with a minimum term of 16 years and 9 months after launching a horrific knife attack on a woman in Wembley on September 30, 2022. The Old Bailey delivered the verdict on Thursday, marking the culmination of relentless efforts by dedicated public protection detectives.

Ira, aged 35, pleaded guilty to attempted murder and possession of a pointed/bladed article following overwhelming evidence compiled by investigating officers. Despite later attempting to vacate his pleas, Ira’s guilt was irrefutably established, leading to his sentencing.

Detective Sergeant Mitesh Mulji, from North West Command’s Public Protection Unit, condemned the senseless act of violence perpetrated by Ira. He emphasized the gravity of the incident, highlighting Ira’s intent to kill the victim. Mulji underscored the Met Police’s unwavering commitment to combating violence against women and praised the victim’s courage in supporting the prosecution.

The attack, which occurred in the early hours of September 30, 2022, prompted multiple calls to the police from concerned members of the public. Responding officers found the victim lying on the pavement with multiple stab wounds to her face, neck, and body. A bloodstained knife, broken due to the force used during the attack, was recovered from the scene.

CCTV footage captured the brutal assault, revealing Ira’s relentless aggression towards the victim, whom he knew personally. Ira continued his onslaught by stomping on the victim’s head until interrupted by a courageous bystander, prompting him to flee.

Following a swift manhunt, Ira surrendered himself at Wembley Police Station, where officers noted fresh injuries and traces of blood on his person. The victim, known to Ira, sustained severe injuries requiring extensive medical treatment, including eight lacerations, facial fractures, and significant head wounds.

During police interviews, Ira declined to provide any comment, leading to his subsequent charges.

The Metropolitan Police urges victims of domestic abuse to seek help and support, emphasizing the importance of reporting incidents promptly. Victims can approach the police or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously for assistance.

The sentencing of Itesh Ira serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of perpetrating violence against women and underscores the determination of law enforcement agencies to hold offenders accountable for their actions.
