Man Sentenced To 18 Years For Raping Two Teenagers In South-west London

In a landmark case that has shocked the community, Silvestar Toshev, a 27-year-old man of no fixed address, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison following his conviction for two counts of rape. The investigation, led by the Metropolitan Police (Met), has brought justice to two teenage victims who endured unimaginable trauma.

Toshev’s trial took place at Kingston Crown Court, where he was found guilty of the heinous crimes on Tuesday, 8 August. The court heard harrowing details of the incidents, which occurred in south-west London.

The first incident took place on 19 January 2023, when a 16-year-old girl was raped by a man who approached her on a bus in Morden. The attack occurred in a remote area near Stonecot Hill. Met detectives were able to recover crucial CCTV footage, which led to the identification of Toshev as a suspect.

Further investigations revealed a second rape case involving a 17-year-old girl in Claremont Gardens, Surbiton, on 21 September 2021. The victim was approached by Toshev near a bus stop and was subsequently taken to a secluded area where the assault occurred. Detectives utilised DNA evidence to establish a link between Toshev and the offences.

Detective Sergeant Andy Walker, a member of the local policing team in south-west London, expressed relief at the verdict. He stated, “This man is a dangerous predator who targeted teenage girls in public. I am pleased that our investigation has resulted in him receiving a significant custodial sentence.”

DS Walker also commended the victims for their unwavering support throughout the investigation, acknowledging the immense difficulties they have endured. He hopes that the sentencing will bring them some closure and help them move forward from this traumatic experience.
