Man rushed to hospital following late night collision

A man has been rushed to hospital strapped to a spinal board following a late night collision on the Isle of Wight. Emergency services rushed to Victoria Avenue in Shanklin just before midnight on Thursday to a vehicle that had flipped trapping the driver. Two retained fire crews from Shanklin and Sandown were called to the incident along with Paramedics from the Island’s ambulance service. Firefighters used spreading and cutting equipment to remove the tail gate of the overturned vehicle that was on it’s roof. After gaining access to rear of the vehicle crews usedd a tunnelling technique to create space to assist removal of the casualtly on a spinal board. The man was treated by paramedics at the scene and later take to St Mary’s hospital in Newport for further treatment. The man was trapped for approximately 50 minutes in the vehicle.
