Man Disqualified After Drink Driving at Over 100mph on M4
Two Men Charged After Cash and Drugs Seized in Chippenham

A man has been disqualified from driving for more than three years after being caught driving at speeds exceeding 100mph on the M4 while under the influence of alcohol.

The incident occurred around 1:15 AM on May 28 when officers in an unmarked vehicle joined the M4 at junction 15 for Swindon. They witnessed Christopher Chitima, 31, of Broad Walk, Knowle, Bristol, speeding towards Bristol. Officers followed Chitima’s vehicle and recorded speeds of over 100mph.

Chitima was stopped near junction 16, where he was breathalysed and found to be over the legal limit for alcohol. He was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.

In a hearing last Wednesday, Chitima pleaded guilty to drink driving. He was disqualified from driving for 40 months, fined £384, and required to pay a victim surcharge of £154 and court costs of £85.

PC Tom Webster of the Roads Policing Unit commented on the case, saying, “These are incredibly dangerous and reckless speeds to be driving at on any occasion, let alone when you have been drinking. There is simply no excuse for Chitima’s actions and he now faces a lengthy spell off the roads. Our Roads Policing Unit will continue to target and clamp down on drink and drug drivers on our roads as we know it can and does lead to fatal collisions.”

The Wiltshire Police Roads Policing Unit remains committed to ensuring the safety of all road users by strictly enforcing laws against drink and drug driving.
