Detectives have brought charges against a man following a fatal collision that claimed the life of a pedestrian in Clapham. Wahab Zahid, aged 19 and residing at St Mark’s Place, Dagenham, was arrested on July 13 and subsequently charged on July 14 with causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision. Zahid will appear in custody at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on July 15.
The incident unfolded when the police received reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a car on Clapham High Street, SW9 at approximately 2.41am on July 9. Responding officers, along with the London Fire Brigade and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service, swiftly arrived at the scene. Despite the efforts of the emergency services, a 27-year-old man was tragically pronounced dead.
The Metropolitan Police’s Roads and Transport Policing Command is providing support to the deceased’s next of kin, who have been informed of the heartbreaking loss. Authorities urge anyone with information related to the incident to contact the police at 101, quoting reference CAD 1040/09Jul.
