A man in his 20s has been taken into custody following a shooting on Jamaica Road in Bermondsey, which occurred just before 8pm on May 6th. The Metropolitan Police swiftly responded to the scene after reports indicated that gunshots were fired.
Upon arrival, officers discovered evidence confirming that a firearm had been discharged. Early investigations suggested that the individuals responsible for the shooting had fled the scene on motorcycles, adding urgency to the police response.
The arrested individual is currently being held at a south London police station on suspicion of firearm offences. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported in connection with this incident, although the situation remains serious.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson provided details of the event: “Police were called at 19:56 hrs on Monday, 6 May, to reports of shots fired at Jamaica Road, SE16. A crime scene has been established as investigations continue. We are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has any footage that could aid our inquiries to come forward.”
