A motorcyclist has suffered serious injuries following a collision involving a car on the M25 this morning (Friday, May 24). The incident occurred on the anticlockwise route near Junction 26 for Waltham Abbey, resulting in significant traffic delays.

Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 7:55am. The injured motorcyclist was swiftly transported to the hospital for further treatment. Essex Police have confirmed that the individual sustained serious injuries.

The collision led to the closure of two out of four lanes on the M25, causing long delays for motorists. The route has now reopened, but drivers are still experiencing congestion with queues stretching back to Junction 27.

A spokesperson for Essex Police said: “We were called to reports of a collision involving a car and a motorbike on the M25, close to Junction 26, at about 7:55am. We attended the scene with colleagues from the ambulance service and temporarily closed part of the road. The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and has been taken to hospital for further treatment. We reopened the road fully and left the scene with National Highways at about 9.50am.

Today’s incident coincides with the start of the long weekend, which is expected to see heavy traffic as it marks the busiest late May bank holiday weekend on the roads since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. The RAC has predicted more than 20 million leisure trips by car will be made between Friday and bank holiday Monday.

Motorists are advised to check traffic updates before setting off and to expect delays, especially on the M25.
