Paul McNaughton, 29, has been handed a life sentence with a minimum term of 22 years for the heinous murder of Peter Coshan, a retired biology teacher from the prestigious Fettes College. The tragic incident unfolded in 2022 when McNaughton deceitfully enticed the 75-year-old victim to a Leith flat using a fabricated persona on a gay dating application.

The plot thickened as McNaughton’s accomplice, 65-year-old Paul Black, became entangled in the aftermath. Together, they concealed Mr Coshan’s body for several days, eventually disposing of it in a remote lay-by in Northumberland.

While McNaughton confessed to the murder and received his sentence at Glasgow High Court on Monday, Black-faced his own legal battle. Although acquitted of the murder charge by an Edinburgh High Court jury, Black was not free from consequence. He received a sentence of five-and-a-half years for his efforts to obstruct justice.
