High winds and heavy overnight rain are wreaking havoc on the morning commute for drivers across Kent today.
In Wye, flooding has rendered the A28 Canterbury Road impassable in both directions, stretching from its junction with the A2070 Willesborough Road at Spearpoint Corner to its intersection with Whitehill and Bramble Lane.
Similarly, in Folkestone, Radnor Park West Road has become blocked due to a fallen tree, necessitating the implementation of a diversion.

Meanwhile, earlier this morning, the A2070 was obstructed at the Tenterden Turnoff by another fallen tree, although it has since been cleared.

Two flood warnings remain in effect: one along the East Stour from Sellinge to Ashford, and another in New Romney in the vicinity of the sewage arm.
And unfortunately, the worst may not yet be over. The Met Office has issued a warning of further heavy rain lasting until 9 am.

Yesterday afternoon, a yellow weather warning was issued for much of the county, with particular emphasis on rising water levels in the Upper River Medway, as well as in the rivers Darent, Eden, Eden Brook, Stour, Teise, and Beult, along with areas on the Isle of Sheppey.
According to an Environment Agency spokesman, “River levels are forecast to rise quickly as a result of heavy rainfall. We expect flooding to affect low-lying land and roads close to the rivers across Kent.”
Pedestrians are advised to steer clear of low-lying footpaths adjacent to rivers while water levels remain elevated.

In addition to road disruptions, railway passengers continue to face challenges following a landslide on Friday caused by the inclement weather, which led to the closure of the track at Newington between Rainham and Sittingbourne. Repairs are anticipated to take a week.
As a result, Southeastern trains are being replaced by a limited bus service between Sittingbourne, Newington, Rainham, and Gillingham. Furthermore, an amended train service will operate between various routes including London Victoria and Gillingham, London St Pancras and Rochester, Sittingbourne and Dover Priory, as well as Sittingbourne and Ramsgate.
