In a distressing incident in Millner, a suburb of Darwin, Australia, a 38-year-old Co Mayo woman, Eileen Gibbons, is in critical condition after sustaining a gunshot wound to the abdomen earlier this week. The incident occurred at a residence in Millner, with police responding to reports of the shooting.

Ms Gibbons, originally from the Castlebar area, is identified as the victim in this tragic event. She emigrated to Australia approximately seven years ago and is currently the mother of a young child. The woman was stabilised at the scene by paramedics before being swiftly transported to Royal Darwin Hospital for emergency surgery. As of the latest update, her condition is described as stable, and she is reportedly conscious.

The incident, which unfolded at around 18.30 local time on Tuesday, resulted in the tragic death of a 35-year-old man who was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have seized a firearm from the location.

Detectives from the Northern Territory Police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Preliminary information indicates that both parties involved were known to one another. As Ms Gibbons fights for her life in a Darwin hospital, relatives are making preparations to travel from Ireland to Australia to be by her bedside.
