Met Éireann, Ireland’s meteorological service, has raised alarm with the issuance of two Status Red wind warnings for multiple counties, signalling extreme weather conditions with potential danger to life.

The first red wind warning covers Clare, East Galway, and South Roscommon, in effect from 03.00 to 05.00. Simultaneously, a separate warning for Offaly and Westmeath is slated from 05.00 to 07.00. These alerts signify the forecaster’s highest-level warning, emphasising the expected perilous winds during the specified time frame.

Anticipated consequences include structural damage, falling trees, and significant power outages. Met Éireann urges residents to exercise utmost caution and adhere to safety protocols.

A broader Status Orange wind warning encompasses several counties, spanning from Carlow to Roscommon, with an active period from 02.00 to 10.00. The entire country remains under a Yellow Wind and Rain Warning from midnight to 15.00 the following day. Severe and damaging gusts are anticipated, posing risks to structures, travel conditions, and power lines.

This weather alert follows recent storms Babet and Ciarán, which left parts of the island grappling with devastating floods due to intense rainfall.

Simultaneously, the UK Met Office has raised concern for Northern Ireland, issuing a yellow wind and rain warning related to Storm Debi. The advisory, in effect from 03.00 to 15.00, cautions residents about potential disruptions, flooding, and travel difficulties. The warning emphasises the possibility of fast-flowing or deep floodwater, flying debris, and the potential for power cuts, urging the public to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions.
