Investigation Underway After Woman Attacked In Jesmond, Appeal For Information

Northumbria Police Detectives have launched a thorough investigation following a distressing incident in Jesmond, Newcastle Upon Tyne where a woman was attacked while walking home in the early hours of Sunday morning. The assault occurred shortly after 3.20am, near Osborne Road, as a 20-year-old woman was making her way along St George’s Terrace.

According to reports, a man wearing a balaclava suddenly accosted the woman, attempting to drag her to the ground. A courageous struggle ensued, allowing the victim to break free and find safety. The assailant fled the scene, leaving the shaken victim behind.

Understandably, the victim has been left deeply shaken by this alarming incident. Police officers are providing her with the necessary support during this challenging time.

A comprehensive investigation has been initiated into the assault, with authorities urging anyone who witnessed the incident or possesses CCTV or dashcam footage from the area to come forward.

Detective Inspector Ben McIntosh expressed concern over the incident, saying, “This is clearly a worrying incident, and I would like to praise the victim for her incredible bravery shown.” He further emphasised the determination of law enforcement to swiftly locate and bring the responsible person to justice.

At this early stage of the investigation, detectives are keeping an open mind regarding the circumstances surrounding this unprovoked attack. Increased patrols have been deployed in and around the area to offer reassurance to the community. Detective Inspector McIntosh encouraged residents, businesses, and individuals who may have been in the vicinity during the early hours of Sunday to review any CCTV or dashcam footage they may have. He stressed that even seemingly insignificant information could be valuable to the ongoing investigation.
