The London Fire Brigade said:

This was a police-led incident

Crews assisted the Metropolitan Police Service with an incident near Redbridge Underground Station in Ilford. The Brigade was called at 1.12pm and the incident was over for firefighters at 2.02pm. Crews from Leytonstone, Ilford and Stratford fire stations attended the scene.

A Spokesman for the Met Police said:

Police were called at around 1255hrs to a report of a body in the River Roding in Redbridge.

Officers attended and the body of a man was recovered from the water. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The death is being treated as unexpected and non-suspicious.

Enquiries are ongoing to inform his next of kin.
