Investigation Possible for Nadine Dorries Over Alleged “Threatening” Messages to Civil Servants – UKNIP

Nadine Dorries, a Member of Parliament, may face an investigation following claims that she sent “threatening” messages to civil servants after not receiving a peerage in Boris Johnson’s resignation honours list. Simon Case, the UK’s most senior civil servant, has referred Ms. Dorries to the Tory Chief Whip regarding these allegations.

During a session before the Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee on Wednesday, Cabinet Secretary Simon Case revealed that he had brought the communications between Ms. Dorries and senior officials to the attention of both the Commons Speaker and the chief whip. Tory MP and committee chairman William Wragg asked Mr. Case if he was aware of any “rather forceful” or “threatening” messages sent by Ms. Dorries to senior civil servants, expressing her intention to use her platform in the Commons and on her television program to investigate why she was denied a peerage.

Mr. Case confirmed that he was aware of such communications and had flagged them to the chief whip and Speaker of the House. When asked if he had sought legal advice regarding the Honours (Prevention of Abuses) Act 1925, which could be relevant in this case, Mr. Case mentioned that he was seeking further advice to explore this question.

In response to these developments, the Liberal Democrats have called on Rishi Sunak, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, to withdraw the Tory whip from Ms. Dorries while the claims are under investigation.

During the committee session, Ms. Dorries, who represents Mid Bedfordshire, was referred to as a “lingering” member of the House of Commons by Mr. Wragg. It was also revealed that Ms. Dorries has written a book titled “The Plot: The Political Assassination of Boris Johnson,” which is scheduled to be published by HarperCollins shortly before the Tory Party conference in September. The book, for which Ms. Dorries has received a partial advance payment of £20,500, delves into conversations with Cabinet ministers, civil servants, and party officials, claiming to expose a “fault line” within the Conservative Party.
