Gunville drugs driver appears before Island Crown court

Joshua Johnson has appeared at the Isle of Wight Crown Court this morning. (Monday, February 10) He’s accused of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving under the influence of drugs which he denies. Johnson, of Gunville Road, appeared before His Honour Judge R Hetherington the Honorary Recorder of Portsmouth to answer two charges on the indictment of causing serious injury to two people in their sixties as a result of a crash on Middle Road near Calbourne on May 28 of in 2018. He also faces a charge of driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drugs over the specified limit. Both charges he has formally entered not guilty pleas to. It is alleged that the 26-year-old was driving a Honda Civic in a dangerous manner when it crashed into a Toyota Yaris at Chessell crossroads. The incident prompted the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance to respond to the Isle of Wight to airlift one of the injured parties to a mainland hospital. During the pretrial review formal not guilty pleas were entered by Johnson who was dressed in a shirt and black trousers, was told that the matter would be set down for a 5 day trial set to start on the 24th June this year.
