Graham Norton Bids Farewell to Virgin Radio Weekend Show

Broadcaster Graham Norton has announced his departure from his weekend show on Virgin Radio UK after three years on the airwaves.

The Irish star, known for his charismatic presence and engaging interviews, joined Virgin Radio at the start of 2021, leaving behind BBC Radio 2 to host The Graham Norton Radio Show on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm alongside co-host Maria McErlane.

In an emotional announcement to his listeners earlier today (February 24), Norton revealed that it would be his final weekend hosting the show on Virgin Radio. He expressed gratitude to his dedicated audience, saying, “It is my final weekend of shows here at Virgin Radio.

While bidding farewell to his regular weekend slot, Norton hinted at future appearances on Virgin Radio, teasing that he will be “popping up from time to time.”

Strictly Come Dancing star Angela Scanlon will be filling in for Norton in the coming weeks. However, there has been no confirmation regarding who will permanently replace him as the new weekend morning host.

Following Norton’s announcement, fans took to social media to express their disappointment and well-wishes. Many shared their fond memories of listening to Norton’s show and praised his warm and engaging presence.

One listener lamented, “Gutted to hear Graham Norton is ending his weekend shows on Virgin Radio. A regular listener since he started there – as he’s a warm funny and engaging listen. Plus a good radio interviewer, something that’s very underrated.”

Speculation also arose about Norton’s potential return to BBC Radio 2, with rumors circulating that he could be joining as the new host of the iconic Sunday Love Songs show. However, nothing has been confirmed yet.

As fans come to terms with Norton’s departure, many expressed their sadness and disbelief, with one listener stating, “Good grief, first of all Steve Wright dies… Now, Graham Norton is leaving his weekend slots on Virgin Radio. I don’t know how I’m going to cope without Graham’s Guides.”

Norton’s departure marks the end of an era for Virgin Radio’s weekend lineup, leaving listeners eagerly awaiting the next chapter in the station’s programming.
