Four Men Assessed After Massive Fire Engulfs Derelict Pub in Mitcham

A significant fire broke out at the Burn Bullock pub on London Road in Mitcham today, prompting a swift response from firefighters. The blaze, which engulfed the roof and multiple floors of the derelict pub, required the intervention of emergency services to contain the situation.

The London Fire Brigade received reports of the fire just before 7:30 p.m. this evening (Friday). Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters encountered flames consuming the ground, first, and second floors of the building. The severity of the situation led to four men being assessed by London Ambulance Service crews at the scene.

To combat the blaze, firefighters deployed a 32-meter turntable ladder as a water tower. Additionally, as a precautionary measure, two gas cylinders were swiftly removed from the property, considering the potential danger posed by their exposure to heat.

The intensity of the fire prompted a significant response from emergency services, with the Brigade’s 999 Control Officers fielding 34 calls regarding the incident. Fire crews from Norbury, Wimbledon, Tooting, and neighbouring stations converged on the scene to assist in bringing the situation under control.

Despite the challenging circumstances, firefighters managed to contain the fire, with it being declared under control by 10:18 p.m. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the factors contributing to the destructive inferno.

As the investigation unfolds, residents and onlookers are urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities to ensure the safety of the surrounding area. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of fire safety measures and the swift response of emergency services in mitigating potential threats to public safety.
