Heartfelt tributes have been paid to seven-year-old Archie York, who tragically lost his life following an explosion and fire in Violet Close, Benwell, Newcastle. Emergency services were called to the scene in the early hours of Wednesday morning, where six people were also taken to hospital for treatment.

Archie’s name was released locally today, as the community comes together in mourning for the young boy. Floral tributes and messages of condolence have begun to appear at the scene, where the impact of the explosion has left several homes severely damaged.

At a press briefing held yesterday afternoon, Northumbria Police confirmed the heartbreaking news of Archie’s passing and said that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the explosion.

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service reported that six flats were “badly affected” by the explosion, with two suffering the brunt of the damage.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “The investigation is at a very early stage and will continue through the coming days.

Residents in the surrounding area have been evacuated for safety, as emergency services work tirelessly to manage the situation and assess the damage.

As the investigation continues, the local community has been left devastated by the tragedy, with many expressing their grief and support for Archie’s family during this incredibly difficult time.
