Fire at Erith Flat Block Forces Evacuation of 50 Residents – UKNIP

A fire broke out at a flat block in Erith earlier today, leading to the evacuation of approximately 50 people from the premises.

At around 1:30 pm this afternoon (April 12), emergency services were alerted to the blaze at a flat on Kale Road in Erith. Responding swiftly, four fire engines and 25 firefighters rushed to the scene to combat the flames.

The fire, which was visible from a distance, prompted a significant response, with the emergency room receiving 28 calls reporting the incident.

The blaze engulfed a three-room flat situated on the sixth floor of the residential building, resulting in its destruction. Fortunately, one occupant from the affected flat managed to leave before the arrival of the fire brigade.

Despite the intensity of the fire, firefighters managed to bring it under control within an hour of their arrival. Crews from nearby fire stations in Plumstead, Bexley, and East Greenwich were also deployed to assist in tackling the blaze.

While the swift response helped prevent further escalation, the cause of the fire remains unknown at this stage. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade provided further details, stating, “This was a very visible fire. The Brigade’s 999 Control staff received 28 calls alerting them to the blaze. The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
