The grieving family of 17-year-old Tamzin Hall, who tragically died after being struck by a vehicle on the M5, has paid heartfelt tribute to the teenager, describing her as a kind, caring, and loyal young woman who saw the world in a unique way due to her autism.
Incident Details
Tamzin, from Wellington, Somerset, was travelling in a police car under arrest when the vehicle stopped on the northbound carriageway of the M5 between junctions 25 (Taunton) and 24 (Bridgwater) shortly before 11 p.m. on November 11.
According to an inquest opened at Wells Town Hall, Tamzin exited the vehicle, crossed the road, and climbed the crash barrier before being struck by a vehicle on the southbound carriageway. Despite emergency efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:10 p.m. Her identity was confirmed through fingerprint comparison.
Tributes from Family
Tamzin’s mother, Amy Hall, described her daughter as her “best friend” and said the family is devastated by the loss.
“Tamzin was the kindest, caring, loving, and loyal girl ever. She was the most honest person I’ve ever known and so very special to me,” Amy said. “She was my world, my shadow, and my absolute everything.”
Amy also shared how Tamzin’s autism made her unique and gave her a different perspective on life. “She had a great sense of humour, and we had many laughs together. She was such an intelligent young girl and had fascinating perceptions about life.”
Tamzin was described as a thoughtful and hardworking person who loved simple joys like spending time with family and indulging in her favorite treat: chocolate. “She loved helping out and put her all into everything she did,” her mother said.
Amy concluded her tribute by saying, “Tamzin was taken far too young. I’ll never get over it, but I’m using my strength for her siblings. She taught me so much, and I’ll hold onto those memories forever.”
Investigation Underway
The inquest heard that Tamzin was under arrest at the time of her death and was being transported to a custody suite in Bridgwater. Coroner’s officer Ben Batley confirmed that her injuries were “not survivable.” The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is now investigating the circumstances leading up to the incident, including how she managed to leave the police vehicle.
