Despite the pursuit having been stood down before the collision and no involvement of police vehicles, the incident was referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct for investigation.

Tragically, Zoe was not the only casualty of the collision, as a second man in a separate vehicle also lost his life. A man in his twenties has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

In a poignant tribute to Zoe, her family described her as the “heart” of their blended family, a cherished figure who was adored as a mother, stepmother, sister, aunt, and loving grandmother. They recalled her as a role model and a friend to many, highlighting her anticipation of celebrating her milestone birthday with her husband, a joyous occasion that was cruelly robbed from her.

The family’s tribute concluded with a poignant message, expressing their immense love for Zoe and the profound void her absence has left in their lives.

Essex Police are leading the investigation into the collision and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. Information can be provided via email at [email protected], through the Hertfordshire Police website, or by contacting the non-emergency number 101, quoting Op Sericeous. Additionally, individuals can choose to remain anonymous by reaching out to the charity Crimestoppers via their hotline or online platform.

As the investigation unfolds and loved ones mourn the loss of Zoe Hawes, the heartfelt tributes serve as a reminder of the enduring impact she had on those whose lives she touched.
