Emergency Services Respond to Mental Health Incident on Golden Jubilee Bridge, London

A major emergency response has been launched in central London in the early hours of Thursday after a person was reported to be threatening to jump from the Golden Jubilee Bridge, on the north (downstream) side near Hungerford Bridge.

The incident was first reported shortly after 3am. Officers from the Metropolitan Police, including the Marine Policing Unit, rushed to the scene near Victoria Embankment to respond to what is being treated as a mental health crisis.

A trained police negotiator is currently on scene and is engaging with the individual, who remains on the bridge. Authorities are urging members of the public to avoid the area to allow emergency services space to operate.

A closure has been implemented near Victoria Embankment for safety reasons, with traffic being diverted. Pedestrian access across the north side of the bridge is also currently restricted.

The incident has drawn a significant emergency presence and caused travel disruption in the surrounding area. The priority remains the safety and wellbeing of the individual involved.

This incident highlights the critical need for mental health support and awareness, especially in high-stress urban environments.

If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, support is available through Samaritans at 116 123 or via their website at www.samaritans.org.

This is a live incident. Updates will follow as more information becomes available.
