EastEnders Star Teases Shock Return for 40th Anniversary

As EastEnders gears up for its 40th anniversary, fans of the beloved BBC soap opera are in for a major surprise. Showrunners have confirmed that numerous characters will be making a return to celebrate the milestone, but one comeback has been so unexpected that even a fellow cast member was left stunned.

In an interview, EastEnders star Matt Di Angelo, who portrays Dean Wicks, teased the return of a mystery actor to Walford. “I know quite a lot and I can’t tell you who exactly – but when I found out, I was very surprised that they would come back,” Di Angelo revealed.

Di Angelo himself has reprised his role as Dean Wicks, having first appeared on the show almost 18 years ago. Reflecting on his own return, he said: “It feels great to be back. I started at EastEnders almost 18 years ago, which seems like a lifetime ago now. I haven’t been back for seven years.”

He expressed his excitement about rejoining the cast, particularly reconnecting with longtime colleagues. “I was thrilled to be asked again for the third time as I love the people and the show. It’s great to catch up with old friends, some of whom I’ve known since I was 18 years old, like Natalie Cassidy and Lacey Turner,” Di Angelo said.

He also shared his enthusiasm for working alongside Adam Woodyatt, who plays the iconic Ian Beale. “I’m working really closely with Adam Woodyatt again, which is really great as he’s a really great guy.”

Though Di Angelo remained tight-lipped about the identity of the returning character, he hinted at intriguing plot developments involving his character. “Without giving too much away, obviously, Dean will cross paths with Linda quite a bit and her new family, the Knights, who are all fantastic and awesome to work with.”

Fans can expect plenty of drama, as Di Angelo also teased a significant storyline involving a trial. “There is a trial. I know the result of the trial because we’ve filmed it already. I can tell you – but I won’t because it would ruin the television!” he said with a laugh.

As EastEnders approaches its anniversary, speculation is running high about which legendary characters might return to Albert Square. Showrunners have hinted at several surprises, ensuring that the celebration of four decades on air will be one to remember.”
