Two men have tragically died following separate fatal collisions involving motorcycles on the A120 in Essex, just hours apart on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 16.
Emergency services were first called at around 3:00pm to a single-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle between Braintree and Coggeshall. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the 20-year-old rider was pronounced dead at the scene.
Less than two hours later, at approximately 4:30pm, police were called to a second collision, again on the A120 between Braintree and Coggeshall. This incident involved a motorcycle and a van.
Tragically, the 42-year-old motorcyclist in this second crash also died at the scene.
Arrest Made in Connection with Second Collision
Following the second crash, a 63-year-old man from the Braintree area has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. He remains in custody while police enquiries continue.
A spokesperson for Essex Police said:
“Our enquiries are ongoing. The families of the two men have been informed and specialist officers are supporting them at this difficult time.”
Road Closures and Investigation
The A120 was closed in both directions for several hours on Wednesday afternoon and evening to allow emergency services to carry out investigations and recover the vehicles.
Motorists were urged to avoid the area and seek alternative routes while the road remained shut.
