A demonstration organised by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign is set to take place in Central London on Saturday, October 14. As preparations for the ‘March for Palestine’ ramp up, authorities have authorised a Section 12 (3) Public Order Act 1986 for the designated march route.
The Section 12 (3) authorisation will be in effect from midday on Saturday, requiring participants to strictly adhere to the designated route outlined from Portland Place to Regent’s Street, Piccadilly, Trafalgar Square, and Whitehall. It is crucial that all individuals associated with the Palestine Solidarity Campaign protest do not deviate from this route to avoid potential arrest.
In addition to the Section 12 (3) authorisation, a Section 14 (3) Public Order Act 1986 condition has also been imposed ahead of an expected protest on Kensington High Street. This condition forbids any assembly within the designated Section 14 area. The marked area on Kensington High Street will be clearly defined by barriers. Any person assembling within this area, to participate in or associate with the London Palestine Protest or Palestine Solidarity Campaign may face arrest.
These security measures arise in the midst of escalating tensions following the recent heinous attack on Israel by Hamas terrorists, resulting in a tragic loss of more than 1,300 lives. In response, Israel has conducted airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, where the unexpected raids were launched, leading to the deaths of over 1,500 individuals. The United Nations and international charities have raised concerns about the humanitarian crisis unfolding in the region.
In a statement released on Friday, the Metropolitan Police Service confirmed their expectations of thousands of individuals traveling to central London to voice their opinions during the March for Palestine. The authorities are committed to facilitating peaceful protests while ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants and the general public.
Additionally, counter-terror police revealed on Friday that a 22-year-old woman had been arrested in Brighton on suspicion of supporting Hamas at a protest event following a speech made on Sunday.
